Student Health Insurance Plan 2022-2023 Changes

Mobile App for UC SHIP

Effective 10/1/22, UC SHIP will no longer use the Mobile Health Consumer App for insurance cards (9/30/22 termination date) and will transition to SYDNEY. Download the mobile app from Google Play or the Apple App Store (search "Sydney Health"). More instructions for downloading the new UC SHIP​ app here.


Free Transportation to Your Medical Appointments

Do you need a ride to an off campus medical or mental health provider? SHIP now offers a Lyft ride scheduled through the Student Health Center.

For UC SHIP voluntary coverage for non-registered (Graduated, Leave of Absence, Filing Fee) students and/or dependents, contact Academic Health Plans (AHP) at 855-428-0730, or by e-mail:

For enrollment questions pertaining to Fall 2018 or prior quarters, call USI at 800-853-5899. 

Premiums 2021-2022 (Health Insurance Fee)

  • Undergraduate Students: $657.00 per quarter
  • Graduate and Professional Students: $1,307.00 per quarter

The Health Insurance Fee is charged separately for Fall 2021, Winter 2022 and Spring 2022 quarters​. The Health Fee for Spring quarter includes coverage through the Summer break, up to the start of Fall quarter.

Prescription Coverage

There are no changes to the prescription benefits for 2021-2022.  

Medical Coverage

The following changes are for the Anthem Blue Cross Medical Plan for 2020-2021.

Mental Health/Substance Abuse benefits

For in-network MHSA inpatient facility charges:

  • Current benefit: $500 copay per admission plus 20% coinsurance (after $500 deductible for non-UC Family)
  • New benefit:  $500 copay per admission plus 5% coinsurance (deductible waived)

For in-network inpatient professional charges:

  • Current benefit: 20% coinsurance (after deductible)
  • New benefit: 5% coinsurance (after $500 deductible for non-UC Family

De​​ntal Coverage 

Effective 9/1/2019, Delta Dental PPO will be a self insured plan instead of a fully insured plan.  This change will cause no impact to the patient and there is no change to the benefits.

Vision Coverage

There are no changes to the Anthem Blue View Vision Plan for 2021-2022.

Gender Affirming Care

Coverage has been expanded to include certain procedures.
